Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone ki kahani ek anaath bacche, Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe), ke gird ghoomti hai, jo apne bereham chacha, chachi (Dursleys) aur chachere bhai Dudley ke saath rehta hai. Harry ko lagta hai ki wo ek mamuli ladka hai, lekin uske 11th birthday par use Hagrid naam ke ek giant se pata chalta hai ki wo asal mein ek jaadugar (wizard) hai aur use Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry mein admission mil gaya hai.
Hogwarts jaate waqt Harry ki dosti Ron Weasley aur Hermione Granger se hoti hai. Wahan pahunch kar use pata chalta hai ki wo poori jaadui dunya mein mashhoor hai kyunki jab wo ek baccha tha, usne dunya ke sabse khatarnak kaale jaadugar (dark wizard) Lord Voldemort ke hamle se jaan bachayi thi, jisne uske maa-baap ko maar diya tha.
